RICHARD DAVID CHRISTY, PhD
Executive Advisor
Richard David Christy is the Executive Advisor of Wahab Law. Richard is a graduate of Waterloo Lutheran University with a Bachelor of Arts. He then received his Master of Arts from the University of Waterloo, and his Doctor of Philosophy from University of Toronto.
Richard’s teaching, research and publication include Social Change, the Sociology of Education, Classical Sociological Theory, the Sociology of Religion and the Sociology of Men and Masculinities. Richard has delivered conference papers at Cambridge University in the United Kingdom, the American University of Paris France, The University of California Los Angeles USA, and the Universidad de Granada Spain.
In terms of public service, Richard served eleven years in municipal politics as the alderman for Centre Ward, the Mayor of the City of Kitchener, and as Counsellor for the Regional Municipality of Waterloo. As Mayor of the City of Kitchener, Richard initiated the Mayor’s Task Force on Downtown Revitalization, the Mayor’s Task Force on Economic Development, Kitchener Senior Citizen Awards, and the Mayor’s Advisory Counsel on Youth.
Richard is also an Associate Professor of Sociology at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he has held positions of Assistant Dean of Arts, Interim Chair of Sociology, the Co-ordinator of Canadian and Urban Studies. Richard founded WaterCan Laurier that raised more than $25,000 for water wells, sanitation facilities and health education for school children in Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia.
Richard’s academic, political, and charitable experience brings depth and insight to Wahab Law as an Executive Advisor. His knowledge of municipal affairs, international activities and the local business community is an asset to Wahab Law.
